The Period Pantry, Est. 2022
Did you know?
1 in 5 girls will miss school due to a lack of proper feminine hygiene products
Two thirds of the 16.9 million low-income women living in the United States could not afford menstrual products in the last year.
Members of the Junior League of Sioux City are tackling the issue of period poverty by working with school nurses to provide menstrual supplies and other hygiene items to girls in Siouxland's middle and high schools. We believe that no one should have to miss out on an education or earning wages because they do not have access to feminine hygiene products.
Products are provided to school nurses in an organized tote. Each tote held several types of period products, along with carrying bags for girls to not only have access while they are at school, but to take home as well. When supplies are low, the Period Pantry Project committee will restock!
With the help of the Siouxland, Junior League of Sioux City has delivered over 21,000 products to 4 school districts and 5 organizations. We currently serve a population of around 9000 students.
